Erin has over 14 years experience teaching art. She has run workshops and courses for West Suffolk College, The Workers Educational Association, MIND, Age Concern, Centre Parcs and privately.
Erin firmly believes training and skills in art techniques and materials is essential to painting with confidence. Once we are confident in our abilities and use of materials, then we are in a position to explore our creativity, which leads to a discovery of our own creative style.

Drawing – the materials and their usage, tone, linear drawing, mark making & texture, perspective, composition, pen & ink drawing, charcoal drawing, still life drawing, sketching vrs drawing, the use of a sketchbook, etc
The very act of drawing is achieving so much more that just creating a drawing/sketch.
- Drawing is linking our hand, eye, brain to create. Eventually allowing us to create what we are ‘seeing’ in our mind.
- Drawing teaches us to really “see” our subject.
- The focus we achieve while drawing is strengthened like an exercised muscle, making it easier for us to work longer on more complex art projects.
- Drawing teaches us to see and use tone and texture in our art.
Watercolours – the materials and their usage, stretching watercolour paper, washes, detail, colour mixing, creating texture and tone. tonal studies, wet into wet technique ,wet into dry techniques, using back runs your watercolours as you gain skills and confidence, blending, hard & soft edges, the various methods of achieving highlights, watercolour sketching, mixing watercolours with other mediums, etc
Oil Painting – the materials and their usage, the oil painter’s palette,, using a palette knife vrs brush painting, mediums, the use of gesso vrs primer, painting surfaces, impasto painting, sfumato painting, varnishing, etc
General Tuition – can include specific topics such as portraiture, the nude, still life, landscape, composition, working with a limited palette, the colour wheel, colour mixing and theory, etc
Private lessons are structured around the students needs.
One to one tuition is for the student that wants a more intense, tailor made lesson. Lessons are structured to the individuals needs. Sessions are normally for an hour.
Tuition in the comfort of your own home, up to a 15 mile radius from her studio.
Tuition online, using a combination of Skype, email and webcam is available for those outside of her travelling limits.
